Three Practices I’ve Adopted That Are Helping Me Live Lighter
Life can be heavy. Between the expectations placed on us, the responsibilities we have to fulfill, the painful and awful experiences we sometimes go through, as well as the seemingly unending influx of information we take in, amongst all the other small things, life can really weigh us down at times.
It was the end of last year when I felt heavier than I had ever felt. I had gone through a painful heartbreak earlier in the year and was between two different teaching jobs — one the came with an hour-long commute and one that came with a toxic work environment.
The indecision about where I wanted to work, the fragments of a broken heart, and the other day-to-day woes of life, took the easiness and lightness of life away. I didn’t feel happy.
It was during this time I had the realization I needed to embark on a journey to unlearn unhealthy patterns and practices that contributed to my dissatisfaction with life, patterns and practices that blocked me from experiencing peace and happiness.
I needed to put into place practices that made my walk through this life feel lighter.
So, I started reading books and watching YouTube videos and following creators who were spreading wisdom and using their knowledge to make a difference.
